Creating Inclusive & Accessible Meetings and Events: Practical Planning Tools
with Jill Rose from Creating Change Consulting, Amara, Camp Victory for Children
As awareness of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) grows, nonprofits have a unique opportunity to lead by example, creating meetings and events that are accessible, inclusive and welcoming for all. While many small nonprofits may not have dedicated HR or DEI staff, this presents an exciting chance to tap into creative solutions that foster a more inclusive environment for everyone.Meetings, events, and workshops often present barriers to participation and learning, whether for neurodivergent individuals, those with visual, mobility, or hearing impairments, or people with different learning styles, among other reasons. The good news is that you can intentionally create an environment—whether in person or online—that honors and lifts up the diversity of everyone involved, increasing participation and enhancing the learning experience for all.In this session, we’ll review some of the visible and invisible challenges that can be addressed, and you’ll leave with a customizable checklist you can use any time you plan a meeting, event, or workshop.
Participants will leave with real-time examples and practical strategies for fostering inclusivity in any setting. They’ll gain valuable insights through conversation and problem-solving around common challenges. Attendees will also receive a set of tips, tools, and guidelines for creating more accessible meetings, events, and workshops. A customizable checklist will be provided that can be adapted to their specific environment, empowering them to implement inclusive practices right away. Handouts will be provided, and attendees will have access to the slide deck, empowering them to implement inclusive practices in their own settings.
